Hi! I live in Cheyenne WY via Denver CO via Laramie WY via Dallas TX via Sula MT via Spokane WA ... and the horses always move with me. I have 6 horses right now but only two that I regularly ride (2 others belong to my husband and we have 2 very old retirees.) Kismet Cognac (KC) is a 10 yr old bay 14.1 purebred Arabian mare. I've had her for 3 yrs now & have enjoyed many endurance miles on her. She is super competitive (way more than me) and has over 2000 endurance miles and 3 Top 15 Tevis finishes. If my research is accurate she is one of only 4 mares to finish 3X in the top 15. Hopefully we will finish good again this year and she will be the only 4X Top 15 mare in Tevis history! KC is not always an easy ride and she wears me out in the early season with her attitude but she really is a loyal friend to me and we mostly have a lot of fun together.
The horse in my picture is Belesema Tayyara. She is a 13 yr old 14.1 purebred Arabian. This mare typifies the Belesemo ranch slogan about their horses being "the Cadillac of trail horses." She is so wise and steady but still a fast endurance horse. She has 1000+ endurance miles and 2 Tevis finishes. Some foot issues sidelined her for a couple years but this year I think she is ready to make a comeback. Regardless if she can race again, I love trail riding on her and schooling in the arena.
We have access to high rolling prairie just out our back gate but I mostly prefer to haul up to the Laramie Range west of us. With accessible open range, forested hillsides and trails that top out about 9000 ft it is an ideal area to ride and train. I'm looking forward to having both my mares to ride this summer .. maybe I can get in better shape with 2 to condition :~)
This summer my mares and I will be competing in WY, CO, MT, CA, UT & hopefully AZ. They are both good travelers and campers and make it a joy to travel the country competing.
I am in awe of all the teams that have so many miles already! Our ride season here in WY is pretty short but being in the Derby is inspiring me to get out even if its for just a few miles. Good weather is on its way so its time to get out and ride .. Really Ride!!
7/1/15 KC Home 3.32 mi ... short amble just to loosen up before going to Shamrock this weekend Tayyara Home 0.21 mi ... really short amble before the T-storm
KC 3.99 mi ... terrain ramble across the prairie, up & down the rolling hills and in the deep gravel gully. rode in the heat of the day (90*) & now she is wearing a turnout sheet to get some heat training.
Sue & KC we want to give you a BIG Congrats from the BEAUTIFUL State of Michigan & every Team with Distance Derby! You have a couple of dozen of us checking in with your progress throughout, a few glued to the computer too! We are all proud of you no matter the results! You are more than halfway on some if the most challenging terrain & among elite athletes...you are ALREADY a WINNER! We will be rooting for you on this second half! Smiles & Miles Short Girls from all around North America!
Congratulations on what you have already accomplished and nest wishes for the rest from Brandie, Cadiz, and Stick (Distance Derby Team 124 - Pine Hippocampus)
8/24 Well I've missed some due to using my phone to enter milage but now I'm back. 3.18 mi Tayyara good solid arena schooling session. wow, my arena skills have deteriorated :( I need to setback to some lessons & get my legs strong again. core needs some work too :)
9/5 Tayyara 1/84 mi 30 min arena ride, Tay had a little cough (dust maybe) so just walked and schooled moving off leg & square halts. She is a fast walker ... ~3.8 mph.
10/25/15 Tayyara 8.54 Happy Jack Mtns Nice fall ride with a friend. Very chilly when we started but it warmed up and we enjoyed the last miles even more. Rode in a somewhat familiar area but found some new trails. Very easy, mostly walking, ride. The dogs had fun and we were shadowed by a huge coyote for several miles.
