Q & A

Frequently Asked Questions &  Answers

Q1) As of 2017, What is a "Team"? In 2017 we are offering 2 Different Leaderboards. 1 for Teams that include 1 Horsewoman/man & 1 of his or her horse. 2nd for Teams with multiple horses wishing to include their mileage on 1 Team. For those with multiple horses still wishing to track each horses' miles SEPERATELY you will have that option too!

You select which Leaderboard is most appropriate when you register.
It is the last question on Registration Form.

Your miles will be added to your Team Total & each mile you earn you will contribute to your State Total as well. So not only will you be competing as an individual Team but as part of your Home State.

We are a local & global game. Hosting a Derby for each of the 50 United States, Canada & other countries. We offer a unique opportunity to connect & compete with riders at the most local level while seeing the view from the saddle from across the globe.

Q2) What if I have multiple horses?  If you have multiple horses you regularly ride you may register a separate Team for each or all on 1 Team. Each Team gets a Team Page which will allow you to keep a journal & back up log for your miles & smiles!

You will also be eligible for a number of different awards which include ranking at the end of the year for those with Most Miles Ridden & Driven on Multiple Horses. That ranking will include Top 5, 10, 25, 50 & 100 Teams.
Each mile you earn you will contribute to your State Total as well. So not only will you be competing as an individual Team but as part of your Home State. If you have more than 1 horse & choose to create another Team for each, you will need a unique name for each of your Teams.

Q3)  Do I have to use a GPS?  Yes, either a GPS app on your Smart Phone or Separate GPS System.  Estimating mileage could be over or understated.  Technology gives us a tool for this type of competition.  You may only record what you GPS.

Q4)  Do I have to record my tracks in the comments?  No.  Although it would be the most fair way of recording, it could turn into a tech support nightmare for me.  There is no big purse at stake here and does anyone really want to win by cheating?  See Q1:  You may only record what you see on your GPS.  I trust all of you will follow that very simple rule.

Q5)  Can I ride a borrowed horse?  Yes.  A team is you and whatever you are riding or driving.  It is you & your equine's mileage that is being recorded. If you are on the Single Horse Leaderboard, you may ONLY include Mileage for the Horse you registered (exception, death or sale of horse, contact Administrator). If you are on the Multiple Horse Leaderboard you may include any number of miles on multiple horses.

Q6)  Does arena riding or riding in demos count?  If you can GPS it, you can record it.  The activity does not matter; it’s the miles.  Please note that some GPSs do not work in a covered arena.

Q7)  Where do I enter my miles?  Click on your team name in the right hand column and it will bring up your bio.  Enter the date of your ride and your mileage in the comments section at the bottom of your bio.

Q8)  Can I change my team name, photo or biography?  No.  This Derby is run on VOLUNTEER hours only. Primarily by one person. In order to make the Derby manageable we can not allow for edits & changes of submitted/published information. So think carefully about your Team Name, Biography & Photo you want included because that information is and will remain on the internet.

Q9)  What if I don't get enrolled by January 1?  The Derby begins on January 1 for those entered prior to or on January 1.  Late entries will be accepted up until we have reached 100 entries for each state.  Late entrants cannot record mileage incurred prior to their entry.

Q10)  How do I sign up?    See Item #4 above in the Derby Rules.

Q11)  Do I have to enter my miles after every ride or can I lump them together?  Each ride must be entered separately to be fair to other participants, mileage must be entered no later than 7 days following the ride.  Miles submitted greater than 7 days following your ride will not be accepted into competition.
