Hi! This is my second year in the Distance Derby (MI). I think that while it hasn't necessarily increased my riding time, it has definitely made me MORE aware of how much I ride - when I remember to turn on my GPS (and how forgetful I am!). I mostly ride Western, but last year had begun doing a bit of English riding. I compete with my mare, Micah - Registered Reys Boston Classic APHA (pictured) in local shows - Western/English Pleasure, horsemanship, and trail. A little bit of Western Dressage and I trail ride often. I have a few other horses that I ride pretty regular too. One of which is Kahlua (registered K.T. Rodgers Cookie) who is a 17 yo AQHA/IBHA mare. I ride on two mounted divisions and she is my trusted mount. I also enjoy riding her on the trails! Next is Jersey, who is a coming 4 yo Hackney/Welsh cross. He is still in training so we ride only in the round pen and the arena, but soon he will be ready for a bit more... of course, he is really small so the riding is to get him ready for children, but I still count these as miles! I do a bit of training on some other horses both on and off my property...I believe that "every ride counts". I look forward to trying other types of riding and events and also to the camaraderie in the DD. Good luck and happy trails to all of my fellow riders! Giddy up!
