I'm Deb from Valparaiso IN and am so happy to be a part of 2016's Distance Derby. I am a 63 year old pony addict married 38 years to my best bud Allen who with his total support - financial assistance lol - and ever lovin encouragement, I have been able to live my lifelong dream...to share my life with ponies AND drive them.
We live on two charming little acres with an old whiney weener dog - 2 fluffy miniature sheep - 1 fuzzy chubby mini mare Cassie - and my stinkin adorable Welsh pony Wynn..my DD team mate whom I will be driving.
Our darn right awesome human family includes 2 beautifully creative grown daughters - 1 goofy lovable SIL - and 3 utterly entertaining grandkids. Ohh..must not forget our 3 quirky little granddogs!
Ponies came into my life a mere three years ago and a year later I began driving with Cassie..my 22 year old mini mare. She is an old pro and my best teacher.
I currently belong to The Carriage and Sleigh Assoc. of NW Indiana which hosts monthly drives throughout the year at local county parks and privately owned farms. I drive purely for pleasure any chance I get..weather permitting lol. I am a wimp. And like many pony addicts, my house is a mess..but my little barn and barnyard are clean.
My 2016 goals are...
Build stronger partnership with Wynn Wynn to be more self confident Listen more to Wynn/Cassie..learn Be quieter..calmer..softer Laugh more Make new pony friends Say "Thank You" every day..for my life..my dream Fix my trailer ramp..or get another trailer! Buy more wine!
Driving goal -low n slow- 100 miles
Thank you Heather Grace for the invite to DD and allowing Wynn and I the opportunity to drive more Miles with Smiles! =-)
Turned out to be a warm 45* Sunday...last day to try and get a tiny January drive in with Wynn. Took a while to get him ready as he is a bit skittish. Brushed him real good and did a little body massage with lots of talking and loving. After harnessing him up I spent more time tweaking and adjusting his harness. Then I pull out my jammies and pull them on. Finally put Wynn to cart, relaxed a few more minutes and off we go. Once he settled down and got into pleasure/working mode we had an short but delightful drive. (1.92m) =-) Deb
We got our February selfies in this morning. A brisk 26* out but sunny so Mr Wynn was in a good mood and told me "yes..take my picture cause I'm so stinkin cute!" No more driving yet. I am a wimp. Come on spring! =-)
Yesterday (tuesday June 21st) was a beautiful day for a drive..77*. Another short drive around the yard and hay field as Wynn was quite naughty again. Too much go..not enough whoa. Not relaxed at all. 1.4 miles. Back to more ground driving.
