My name is Natalie and my "go to" partner is a 12 year old Pinto named Tucker, but I also ride my husband's Paint horse Freckles and I love to drive my Paint pony. We spend most of our time riding trails and camping. Every now and then I will dip my toes in the waters of one of the competitive trail rides but most everything we do is just for fun.
I do not expect to log nearly the amount of miles as many in this group but I do look forward to being inspired by some of the longer distance riders. I am also excited to see how many miles we do ride in a year now that we are actually tracking it.
Using this space to track my miles until I am on the leader board: 5/8-4.47 (Lee State Park) 5/9-8.83 (Lee State Park) 5/12-3.19 (Home) 5/13-1.51 (Home) 5/16-2.29 (Home) 5/17-3.78 (Greenway)
We hit our first 50 miles on 5/27. It was a beautiful evening for a ride. I'm amazed at how the miles have added up. We do not do any LONG distance rides at any one time so it's cool to see how those 2-8 milers build and build. What a fun month of May it has been.
After a lovely ride in the rain with Tucker I was sooo close to the 60 mark that I took a break for some grub then hopped on my hubby's horse to hit the milestone. Lovin' the inspiration this group is giving me.
June has been a great month for riding and I have had the opportunity to ride at 5 different places and some of those multiple times. I am fortunate to live a reasonable driving distance from many state, national and county parks that have equestrian trails.
We have just over 87 miles and I am hopeful to hit 100 before the month's end, however I am mindful of our temperatures as we are regularly hitting the high 90's and triple digits. Accumulation may slow down a bit until a cool snap or even the Fall.
Less miles does not mean less smiles. It was hilarious last night as I was filling the water troughs to watch the horses beg for their turn in the water hose. A reminder that Summer has settled in.
Had a nice ride at home this morning. Played with some of the patterns my instructor gave us to work on to get better transitions and more responsiveness from my body and aids. He found some nice relaxation at the canter which is hard for him in the arena. I considered that a very successful ride.
I had an amazing ride yesterday. Just me & T out on the trails in the early morning hours before the heat of the day. He was so relaxed and so willing at walk, trot, canter and we added another 6.66 miles to the leader board. What an amazing way to begin the week. This horse continues to amaze me.
